“Did you know that killer whales are monogamous?” - warned Captain Nolan. No, he would strangle a female whale on his hunting schooner and watch her miscarry and, thrown off the side of the boat, kill herself by throwing herself under the blade. In the morning, her male will tow the corpse to the fishing village and challenge the captain to a deadly fight.

This movie, in my opinion, should, first of all, make people think about the question that art and, in particular, cinema, have been addressing more and more often lately: does man have the right to dispose of the lives of other creatures? The belief in the omnipotence of man, in his exceptional position in comparison with other creatures, often leads to horrifying consequences, first of all for man himself. And this movie more than clearly shows it on the example of the tragic fate of Captain Nolan and the people around him. Captain Nolan, and no one else, is responsible for the events that unfolded in a quiet fishing village. It is he, not the whale is guilty of the death of the crew of the schooner Nolan, he broke the life of an unfortunate girl, who remained forever crippled and lost her loved one ...
And everything began, it would seem, with a trifle: Captain Nolan wanted to catch a killer whale (which, by the way, saves a man in the beginning of the movie). As a result, the female whale dies with her unborn calf. The captain destroyed the whale family despite the tragic history of his own family and the warnings of an expert. He was too confident in his superiority over the whales. But the further events of the movie convince us otherwise: the whale acts with truly inhuman cleverness, taking revenge on the humans who stole his happiness....
In the end, Nolan and the whale come together in a deadly duel, which showed who was responsible for the misfortunes that fell on both animals and humans....
In general, the movie, in my opinion, very well explains to people a very simple truth: we are not the masters of the planet, our reasonableness does not give us the right to destroy living beings, on the contrary, it is because of our reasonableness, we, humans, are responsible for all the consequences of 'conflicts' with nature.
