Storyline
Detective James Knight 's last-minute assignment to the Independence Day shift turns into a race to stop an unbalanced ambulance EMT from imperiling the city's festivities. The misguided vigilante, playing cop with a stolen gun and uniform, has a bank vault full of reasons to put on his own fireworks show... one that will strike dangerously close to Knight's home.

Detective Knight: Independence is directed by Edward Drake and stars Bruce Willis, Lochlyn Munro, Willow Shields and Jack Kilmer.

The Detective Knight trilogy has come to an end and with it so is Bruce Willis' career (although you can make an argument his mainstream career ended with Glass back in 2019) officially the last Bruce Willis movie generically titled "Assassin" releases in late March and brings an end to the Bruce Willis exploitation train.

As for Detective Knight: Independence it's not great. But no one going into this expected it to be. Sure some of the themes explored are interesting. What makes a good cop? And what makes a bad one? But they are never explored deep enough. It doesn't help that Edward Drake thinks split screen and scenes that looked like they were filmed on a phone were a good idea. The best scene in this movie involving Willis is his flirty banter with his captain (Dina Meyer). Although it was hard to tell if her and Willis were even in the same scene together.

The best part of this movie is easily Jack Kilmer. (Son of Val Kilmer) Who tries to do something interesting performance wise here with his slow descent into madness unfortunately he's held back by the generic script by Drake and Corey Large. As for Willis himself in almost every scene he's in he has a body double and is dubbed to be expected. The big finale of this movie is sad to watch since Bruce Willis is dubbed for the whole thing and his mouth doesn't even match to what is being said. The entirety of this Detective Knight trilogy has ripped off better movies. Detective Knight: Rouge was a ripoff of Heat. Detective Knight: Redemption ripped off themes from both The Dark Knight and The Dark Knight Rises and this movie, is really a low budget ripoff of Michael Bay's Ambulance and Live Free Or Die Hard (which also takes place on Independence Day and is miles better to watch than this.)

Overall the concept for this trilogy was interesting. A rouge detective trilogy had potential and this could've been an interesting character for Willis to play in his prime. However having Bruce Willis as the lead for these movies in the state he's in held the entire thing back. Since he was clearly not in a good enough state to carry these movies the focus mostly shifts to secondary characters and actors who aren't as experienced, were held back by weak writing or just didn't care enough to try. It's a shame Bruce Willis' career had to go out like this. I hope right now despite his health issues Bruce Willis is enjoying retirement as much as possible.
