A small English village is separated by an ancient wall from a supernatural parallel universe where magic and enchantment reign. Young Tristan Thorne recklessly promises the prettiest girl in the village that he will bring her a star that fell from the sky on the other side of the wall.

On his journey in the footsteps of ancient legends, Tristan will meet an all-powerful king and his conspiratorial son, a powerful witch, a pirate ship captain and a cunning merchant, as well as find his true love, the key to understanding his identity and a destiny he could only dream of.

User Review
Tristran (Charlie Cox) is about to find a celestial body and present it to his beloved Victoria (Sienna Miller). But having reached the place of fall, the fairy-tale hero finds out that the star, of course, has fallen, but it has turned into a charming girl Iwaine (Claire Danes), whom now Tristran has to protect and defend. And to protect and defend her there is from whom - at least, to the falling star shows increased attention to the evil sorceress Lamia (Michelle Pfeiffer), who wants with her help to find the secret of eternal youth. And the many sons - living and dead - of Lord Stormhold (Peter O'Toole) are about to use Iwaine in a battle for the throne ...

“Stardust“ - screen adaptation without further ado magnificent book by Neil Gaiman - the main to date the creator of strange and magical stories (”American Gods”, ‘Children of Anansi’, ‘Carolina’, ‘Smoke and Mirrors’), an excellent English writer whose books have become a real gift for those who have already learned by heart all Stephen King and all Clive Barker, but has not lost interest in high-quality fantastic prose. Despite the maelstrom of amazing adventures, “Stardust” (2007) is a very earthy fantasy in which the characters play no less of a role than their inherent magical properties, and the manifestations of feelings go far beyond the long-awaited Harry Potter kiss. Western critics have likened Stardust in their reviews to “a Steven Spielberg movie set to a script that was intended for Terry Gilliam,” but perhaps neither Spielberg nor Gilliam has sustained that level in a long time.

Fortunately, all the advantages of Gaiman's book were transferred to the screen in one piece - an incredible number of very good actors (in addition to those mentioned above, Rupert Everett, Jason Fleming, Sir Ian McKellen, Ricky Gervais, Dexter Fletcher - you can't name them all) revel in the opportunity to spend some time in a marvelously designed, exciting and truly magical world, the equal of which hasn't been seen since “The Lord of the Rings”. Director Matthew Vaughn (who not so long ago made his debut with the wonderful “Layer Cake” (2004), perhaps the best British crime film since Guy Ritchie's classic opuses) has made a movie just for the whole family, where kids will be delighted by the magic perfectly embodied in special effects, teenagers will be able to identify with the main characters, who very convincingly learn love and responsibility, and adults...

Adults won't be left out either. At least because at some point in the sky of the parallel world there is a flying ship with a team of air pirates, ruled by Captain Shakespeare (that's right, no more, no less), played by Robert De Niro. And this is, as they call it, a deadly number. The most vivid character of the movie, a flibusterer without fear and reproach, a bug “in his own mind”, noble and majestic in his own way, he not only pulls the hypothetical blanket of the audience's attention on himself, but pulls it down in one second, turns around in it, as if a patient of a madhouse who fancied himself a patrician, and makes such a face, seeing which no more or less restrained person is able to sleep normally for at least a week. Even the most eccentric and uncontrollable pirate of recent times - Captain Jack Sparrow - seems on the background of De Niro cold-blooded Terminator with a frozen face-mask - to resist denirovsky theater of facial expressions and gestures is impossible, and do not want to. And the fact that in one of the episodes De Niro dances in a skirt can not be mentioned at all - it must be seen. And preferably more than once.

Those for whom “Stardust” will turn out to be a favorite childhood movie, we can only envy.
