The Disney studio's machine for producing remakes of popular cartoons has almost never failed. If we disregard the disastrous film Alice Through the Looking Glass, all other feature films have consistently performed well at the box office. But then came Snow White, which came as a big shock to the studio. It flopped at the box office and received a whole collection of negative reviews on global resources. This was due to both objective and subjective reasons, mainly related to Rachel Zegler.

The plot of the film unfolds in a distant kingdom ruled by the Good King and the Good Queen. One day, during a severe snowstorm, their heiress was born, whom they named Snow White in honor of the season in which she was born. In other words, we are given a simple explanation as to why the main character, who had snow-white skin in the Brothers Grimm fairy tale and in the original Walt Disney cartoon, is now dark-skinned. But this is not the main problem with the film. All the nuances here lie in the details and the message that the film conveys.

If we recall the original, Snow White was not averse to helping the seven dwarfs clean their house, and at the same time she guided them on the right path, making them better and teaching them to get along with each other despite all their differences. In the new film, Snow White does not do anything around the house and only acts as a motivational coach who has nothing but prepared phrases to say. And these words can describe Mark Webb's entire film in principle. Snow White is simply good because that is how she was written in the script. She can only do something and clean the house when forced to. However, all the other characters, whether female or male, have to work and perform various tasks. The main thing is that Snow White herself keeps her hands clean and only charges everyone with her positivity.

The charisma of the seven dwarfs, who do practically nothing useful, is not fully utilized here. In the Disney cartoon, they played a very important role in the plot and were active when it was really necessary. Now they serve as nothing more than a comical and entertaining element. In addition, they are rather poorly drawn on the computer, and while watching, I even had the feeling that we were watching a cartoon in the style of Robert Zemeckis' A Christmas Carol, rather than a feature film, as it should be.

Several new melodies were added to the film, but for the most part, they are not memorable. It was much more pleasant to hear the classic music from the cartoon, which needs no special introduction. But this is precisely where the authors of the remake fall short.

Mark Webb's Snow White turned out to be dull and cloying, completely implausible. For younger school-age children, this simple and cheerful story may be enjoyable, but for other viewers, it will not be a great revelation and will be quickly forgotten.
