Omniscient Reader: The Prophecy 4K 2025 Ultra HD 2160p
Office worker Kim Dok-cha suddenly discovers that the world is becoming just like his favorite book about the end of the world. He is the only one who has read it and knows the ending.
User Review
The life of young clerk Kim Dok-cha is unremarkable. His dull everyday routine is brightened up by a web novel about the end of the world, which is unpopular with other readers. Suddenly, the cataclysm described in this web novel comes to Earth. And only Kim Dok-cha knows what to do.
In the case of The All-Knowing Reader, I fell into the trap of having high expectations. The film has a high rating on Kinopoisk: 7.4. The apocalyptic meta-plot was reminiscent of both the recent Chuck's Life and my childhood favorite The Neverending Story. Plus survival games in the spirit of ‘Battle Royale’ and ‘Squid Game’. Wrap it up!
I go to the cinema and see an infantile story in the spirit of ‘who was nothing will become everything’ about a gray, boring guy who knows what to do when the earth is taken over by ‘constellations’ from space (whatever that means). Moreover, the voice and conduit of the constellations' will is some kind of small flying Pokémon, similar to the ‘android’ symbol with Carlson's mannerisms — it's simply impossible to take such a threat seriously. And what, did the aliens give such a Pokémon to every group of people on the planet, in every classroom, every subway car, every office?
The plot, however, suggested a non-trivial storyline: what if the main character of the book is not as perfect as the author portrayed him? What if, by interfering, the hero ruined the whole plot by killing one of his teammates? Can willpower be stronger than fate — or, more precisely, the will of the invisible author of the miracle book?
Alas, in the very first episode, when the hero “pumps up” his strength using a magical game “account” with coins, it becomes clear that meta-depth and post-irony are the least of the filmmakers' concerns. This means that we will be watching a series of random trials (kill someone alive on the train! Defeat the sea serpent! Kill the monster dogs in the subway!), and with poorly drawn graphics to boot.
It becomes impossible to follow the twists and turns of the meta-plot, and the main message of the film (that surviving as a team is cooler than surviving alone) is lost in the overloaded visuals. Well, I'm not an omniscient viewer, and some people like that kind of thing.
