User Review
This is one of those times when I’d rather say (or write) less and just stick to a review.
So, in short—I liked the movie; it’s very engaging, and the director is a master of his craft. The cast is excellent. The screenwriter also did a great job, fleshing out the unique traits of each character. There are a few minor flaws, but they mainly stem from the lingering feeling that I’ve seen this somewhere before—though this criticism is very, very subjective. Otherwise, it stands as a benchmark for the genre; it’s no wonder that Aldrich’s film influenced so many that followed.
The film won an Oscar for sound effects and received three nominations (Best Supporting Actor [John Cassavetes]; Sound; Film Editing).
