Isle of Dogs 4K 2018 Ultra HD 2160p
The story of 12-year-old Atari Kobayashi, who is under the guardianship of the corrupt Mayor Kobayashi. When, by decree of the latter, all domestic dogs in the city of Megasaki are banished to a huge landfill, Atari sets off alone on a miniature flying machine to the garbage island to find his faithful dog nicknamed Spots. There, on the island, together with a pack of new mongrel friends, he will embark on an epic journey that will determine the future fate of the entire Prefecture.
User Review
Such a pressing political issue as authoritarianism and everything associated with it is shown in all its glory. All the signs are there: the cult of personality surrounding Mayor Kobayashi; mass propaganda used to maintain power for a long time; the elimination of political opposition; and even accusations of spreading “false” information by “US agents.” And dictator Kobayashi's decision to exile all dogs to Garbage Island due to the spread of dog flu becomes a turning point in the history of Japan's Uni Prefecture.
And the main opposition to all this madness is Atari, a 12-year-old boy, the nephew of the main antagonist and one of the main characters in this cartoon. Despite the early loss of his parents and the guardianship of his tyrannical uncle, the boy has a much purer heart and a much less clouded mind than many of the adults around him. It is Atari who is the link between the world of dogs and the world of humans, as he is the only one who decides to save his beloved Spots.
The film is set in the Japan of the future, which allows the author to create a language barrier not only between humans and dogs, but also between the viewer and the cartoon, translating dog language into English and using Japanese for human speech, which is not understandable to every viewer. It is worth mentioning the episode with the cannibal dogs, who turn out to be not as bad as the rumors about them suggest. Rather, they are not bad at all, because they resorted to eating their own kind only out of complete desperation. The names of the five main dogs (Chief, King, Boss, and Count) suggest some kind of hierarchy, but it's quite the opposite! Every decision made by the team depends solely on equal voting. And Chief's story is unlikely to leave anyone indifferent. Such things make the dog society, against the backdrop of human society, as strange as it may sound, even more human.
Wes Anderson, who takes into account the seemingly hackneyed genre of dystopia, shows through the prism of his perception that not every bad story has to have a bad ending. Even the seemingly insane dictator Kobayashi undergoes a journey of redemption, and his place is taken by his nephew Atari (Anderson seems to be saying that the bright future of any nation lies with its young representatives).
There is not much to say about the visual design, animation, sound effects, and voice acting, given that Isle of Dogs is in many ways the ideological successor to Fantastic Mr. Fox: classic and unusual for modern viewers 12 frames per second, puppets dressed in incredibly stylish costumes, an atmospheric original soundtrack, and a host of stars voicing the main characters.
My personal recommendation for this creation: it is definitely worth watching for fans of Wes Anderson and his style (although they probably did so without my recommendation), fans of high-quality animation, and, of course, dog lovers. I also recommend that everyone else give it a chance, because there is something in this film that will appeal to you.
