The sequel to DreamWorks Animation's Bad Guys cartoon.

Preview. I love the first part. Yes, it's not a timeless cartoon, but rather a pleasant romp, but it delivered its share of fun and entertainment. The sequel is objectively weaker, but it's still a light option for an evening.
Plot. After getting out of prison, Wolf, Shark, Piranha, and Tarantula try to start a new life: find a job, win the trust of society, and help others. But the past won't let them go — circumstances force them to get involved in another adventure, and now the governor's reputation is at stake.
The first part was surprisingly fresh—an (almost) original plot, funny gags (my favorites are the guinea pig in the world of cars and the friendship expiration timer). The second part follows the same path—the same characters, roughly the same situations.
But it's nice to see that the authors didn't return the characters to the starting point of the previous part, but showed changes: the “bad guys” became truly good. They think about others, choose the good of their neighbors, try to empathize and trust people. The plot is based on the same framework, but the writers don't forget about the characters' growth.
The main characters may have remained the same clumsy villains, but they have become more profound. There is noticeable progress in their behavior, and their attempts to adapt to normal life provide many amusing and touching moments: yoga, love, balance—situations familiar to every viewer. The new characters also have unique traits, they are memorable and attract attention.
References to modernity are also pleasing. Particularly memorable are the moments involving job hunting (I don't know whether to be happy or not that these are global problems), jokes about money and the police, and the show's own MacGuffin, which becomes the main magnet of the plot.
The visuals are pleasant—the authors added comic book effects and kept the bright and unique animation. The chase and action scenes look dynamic and stylish. The musical accompaniment is also top-notch—a driving selection of tracks sets the mood and emphasizes the action, thriller, and fantasy elements.
On the downside, the film has a lot of toilet humor and outright absurdity. It feels like the project wants to appeal to both adult and children's audiences, but the balance is off, and there are scenes where you feel uncomfortable.
And if you dig deeper, the cartoon lacks the detail and emotional depth to remain in your memory for a long time.
The sequel does not try to bite off more than it can chew, but honestly fulfills its task—to entertain the viewer. It is simpler and more chaotic than the first part, losing some of its charm in places, but retaining the energy and lightness of the original.
The project is in many ways reminiscent of The Fast and the Furious (there is even a direct reference to it): dynamic chases, risk, teamwork between the characters. And, of course, it sets the stage for the next installment. It seems that this was not the last race for the “bad guys.”
If you want a colorful cartoon for the evening, The Bad Guys 2 will do the job. It's not a contender for cult status, but you can't call it bad either.
