Superhero movies are still just as popular today. DC and Marvel continue to churn out their films and TV series by the dozen. Some projects are successful, others not so much, but fans are still eager to see the next release from either company. The situation is a bit different when it comes to younger audiences. Frankly speaking, adult-oriented films simply aren’t suitable for them, and the existing animated feature films, say, from DC, are also mostly aimed at a mature audience. The animated film “Super Pets” turned out to be an excellent solution in this situation. The film explores the world of DC superheroes, where viewers will see familiar members of the Justice League, but the focus of the story shifts to the animals, whose adventures form the basis of the plot.
The cartoon delights with its artwork. Beautiful visuals, excellent animation of both humans and animals, and a successful blend of diverse facial expressions—all of this allows viewers to enjoy the story and delve deeper into the inner world of each character.
The story is filled with witty jokes and important themes that are so relevant in today’s world. I find their exploration particularly effective through the lens of animal life, whose adventures are given the most screen time. At the same time, the film also makes room for human characters (or rather, superheroes—and as we know, not all of them are human, even though they look like us). Clever narrative choices allow the film to bring together a dozen characters at once. Often, this approach backfires because there simply isn’t enough screen time to fully develop each hero. But in *Superpets*, everything feels appropriate and well-handled, and the members of the Justice League, in essence, don’t really need much further development. First, they’re supporting characters here, and second, as a rule, a knowledgeable viewer already knows what to expect from Batman, Wonder Woman, Superman, or Aquaman. The characters will be true to themselves, and at times, the quirks of one hero or another will be successfully mocked. Kudos to the scenes with Batman. At times, the hero had me laughing so hard I was holding my stomach. But even those unfamiliar with these characters won’t feel lost. The screenwriters did an excellent job ensuring all viewers can comfortably enjoy this story.
The voice actors—and there are plenty of them here—deserve praise. Every single one, without exception, and without naming any favorites. Thanks to the actors’ high-quality work, the characters seem to come to life. You believe in them, empathize with them, and enjoy their masterful performances.
Through the example of the main character, the dog Krypto, the viewer will understand and perhaps reflect on what owners mean to dogs. How attached they are to them, how they miss them, and how often the dog’s owner is the whole world to the pet. And when the owner’s significant other appears on the horizon, the dog may not understand and suffer.
You can’t help but apply these thoughts to real life and suddenly realize how attached our smaller brothers can be to us at times.
The story touches on the theme of friendship. You can’t do without it. The rich narrative doesn’t shy away from the formation of a new animal team, where the characters learn to be a pillar of strength for one another and a true source of support during life’s difficult moments.
“Superpets” will delight all viewers, whether they are young children or adults looking for a good laugh. The film turned out to be truly meaningful, interesting, and colorful.
