"The Super Mario Galaxy Movie" is still an enjoyable ride, mainly because it keeps the same playful spirit and colorful charm that made the first film so easy to like. The world remains vibrant and inviting, and there is still enough energy here to make the experience fun in the moment.

The characters are likable enough, and the cast keeps the tone light and entertaining. That said, this time there is far less emotional weight or development, which makes the overall journey feel flatter and less involving than before.

Visually, the film is once again its biggest strength. The animation is excellent, full of detail, creativity, and personality. The world building is genuinely impressive, and the soundtrack helps elevate many scenes, adding that familiar sense of wonder and momentum that fits this universe so well.

The biggest issue is the script. Compared to the first film, which was already fairly simple, this one feels much messier. Events pile up quickly without enough room to breathe, and the story often feels like an agglomeration of ideas rather than a well built progression. Because of that, the pacing becomes uneven and the second half loses clarity.

That lack of focus makes its weaknesses harder to ignore. The film keeps throwing things at the screen, but very little feels properly developed, and the emotional side never lands the way it should.

Even so, it is hard not to have fun with it. The charm of this world and the strength of its visuals still make it an enjoyable watch, but this time the weaker writing holds it back enough to make it feel like a noticeable step down from its predecessor.
