Paddington Bear (Ben Whishaw) has settled in London, grown up and even got a British passport. Judy (Madeleine Harris) is preparing to go to university and hardly ever leaves her room. Jonathan (Samuel Joslin) sits in front of his computer all day long and comes up with clever inventions so he doesn't have to get up from his chair and interrupt the game. Mr. Brown (Hugh Bonneville) has a new American boss (Hayley Atwell), now a staid English gentleman must get used to not only calculate the risks, but also jump into dangerous ventures. Mrs. Brown (Emily Mortimer) is upset that the children have grown up and the relatives no longer spend time together. Then comes some unexpected news: Aunt Lucy (Imelda Staunton) at a bear retirement home in Peru has grown quite homesick and has almost stopped socializing with the other furry retirees. The Browns, as well as Mrs. Bird (Julie Walters), travel to another continent to cheer up the bear and relax as a family.

User Review

I didn't like it. Not in the sense of 'Oh! It's awful! Let me wash my eyes with soap!”, but ‘Good plot, but the staging was rubbish’. I don't know if I can give away enough thoughts for a whole review, my main point, and my only one: the first movies were for the whole family, the third one is for kids.

All that is good in the third movie are the main milestones of the script and visual finds from the previous installments (for example, the live painted tree at the staircase that leads to Paddington's attic). The major milestones of the script, not the whole thing. Some episodes made my eyebrow arch nervously. Other movies made sense within the fictional world, this one did not.

Let's be honest, in the first movie Paul King was simply pontificating about a million tricks he knew to milk the audience for emotion. In the second movie, he began to give out the tricks dosed, making the tape not only a great adventure for children, but also a perfect comedy for adults. Duggal Wilson puts the camera and waits for the actors to do the rest. He sees no point in changing the camera position unnecessarily and forming the episode from different pieces. A lot of the jokes are put to death because that direct angle and the very specific expectation of another Paddington behavior caused by ignorance kills the whole ha-ha. Rebs... Have you seen the official trailer? A third of it is footage from the previous movies!

For some reason the villainy of the villains is hidden until the last, although one of them is turned in there in the trailer and there's a neon halo with arrows around any villain. Again 'made for kids', so what if it's all too obvious to adults. The punishment of the villains is weird, it violates the logic of the world. And for once it's not funny at all.

In the script itself is a lot of things, to everything really 'tasty'. The hike through the jungle, as it will turn out somewhere in the middle, is not just for fun, but for some purpose. It's really great and the goal even gives a sense of gain, but.... И... no, I won't say that the goal cheats expectations, on the contrary, it gives an unexpected twist. But again, it's all kind of underdone, underdone. Why did they have to hide everything, and after visiting Paddington suddenly realize that 'screw it, we're lifting the secrecy'?

It's not a bad holiday movie. Kids will love it, they'll love the exoticism. But the franchise is no longer a cake. Or even a cupcake. And maybe not even a cookie. The child hero franchise used to provide viewing material for kids and adults alike. And now it's turned into-- Oh, my God, it's turned into a television project! Because Dougal Wilson had only ever made television projects before. And the reasons why he was given a multi-million dollar budget to continue a successful franchise, I don't see.

Not the worst tv show, but the constant 'yeah ok, we won't reshoot' when compared to previous movies is very much felt. The movie isn't blighted. But it is standard. People ran to it, remembering the merits of past movies. They may have even loved it, because they are used to loving every new installment of 'Adventure'. But they won't run to the next one, that's the trouble. The problem with franchises is each new movie is judged by the previous one. Did the previous movie make a genius? Then the director of the next installment is on a roll, if he doesn't do something completely outrageous. But someone made another piece of franchise for junior high school students - and shoot the next one even Santa Claus personally, it is unlikely that it will be able to compete at the box office.
