Storyline
Johnny Firpo, a US Navy Lieutenant, is competing in many competitions in Miami, including American football and speedboat racing. Charlie instead is a truck driver making deliveries in various places and ultimately must carry a tank full of dolphins. The two characters meet when some miscreants sabotage Johnny's speedboat. He thinks that it was Charlie who was eating a plate of beans, but in the end they discover that the real culprits are a gang of illegal bookmakers, led by a man known as Paraboulis 'The Greek', who are controlling and rigging every gambling competition in Florida.

The stands are noisy, and thousands of eyes are watching the dashing horses. People are biting their lips, and some of them are impatiently crumpling their sweepstakes coupons. The heat is such that somewhere in the distance all the Hawaiian volcanoes have been extinguished with envy. At the racetrack there is a game, a big game with big stakes. In a matter of minutes, the rich become even richer, and the poor risk being left without pants. And at the same time, numerous cafes become a gambling paradise, and here you can not lose attention for a second - poker is a science, the scientist will find his own cheat. The whole Miami has been taken over by the gambling mafia, its leaders are the real masters of life, to which tourists are allowed only to lick their eyes. This can no longer continue - decides the leadership of the U.S. Navy and sends zealous “live” Johnny Ferpo as a proper “heat” frumpy gangsters. But here's the trouble: the blue-eyed sailor doesn't know how to play, and the one who can teach him - has long been out of business, works as a trucker, snacks on beans and onions at stops and is absolutely happy. What games are there to play.

The excitement is so tenaciously grasped that it does not go away, no matter how hard anyone tries. The first meeting of the heroes of the humorous criminal raid Johnny and Charlie shows them as different people, as different as the complexities of the subtle Terence Hill and huge Bud Spencer. Choleric and phlegmatic, ardent and calm, frisky and judicious - they do not look like brothers, even though they are the same blood. But who cares about such trifles, if we are talking about one of the most colorful comedy duets of Italian cinema? The famous director Sergio Corbucci, whose heyday came in the sixties, was occupied with quite other questions, for example, who will count more teeth at the smug bandits and who will smile sooner luck in the noble rip-off of the mafia. The bad guys, of course, will desperately resist, and deceptions, tricks and sneakiness are at the ready. Someone should prepare in advance to find a hole in his pocket or hug the air instead of the native steering wheel. The game is a capricious and fickle young lady, you will have to take care of her for a long time and anticipate her weaknesses. It's a tiresome business, but for the sake of a big score you can't do anything.

In the title of the movie is not for nothing “alternative”, after all, Corbucci filmed not baddie-muvi in its purest form. It's hard to recognize the Ferpo brothers as allies when the former is notable for his reckless antics and the latter desperately doesn't want to return to his gambling past. The whole essence of this vivid picture is based on deception. Fate seems to mock the harsh but trusting giant Charlie, and egocentric Johnny often looks like a scumbag, pursuing only his own interests. On the screen so begs for a roulette wheel: one turn - and both heroes find themselves with nothing, the second turn - here they are again the storm of the mafia, more and lupsachat enemies for nothing. Since “Odds and Evens” is more of a comedy than a crime thriller, all the scenes with scuffles - and there are plenty of them here - somehow can't be attributed to violence. What is it! Diving headfirst into a cake, furniture blown on Spencer's mighty back, broken windows of a cafe - fun, and only fun.

As the narrative quickens its pace, a lump of sadness becomes more and more noticeable: there is a cheerful atmosphere of a bygone era on the screen. Corbucci has made an absolutely ruthless movie, bribing with the charm not only of the wonderful actors, but also of the time itself. The very first shots, accompanied by rousing music, create a complacent mood. Some predictability of events even decorated the picture, allowing you to enjoy the escapades of two adventurers and be sure that they will get out of any trouble and more than once noisily find out the relationship. Most of all irony got, which is logical, the masters of the game world. Powerful bookmakers, one of whom in the picture “Billiardist” was truly terrible in its power, are shown as a gang of cunning rotoseyov, unable to truly control the game. Cool gamblers appear as clinical idiots, even stubbornly unwilling to take the Ferpo brothers seriously. But it's understandable: Miami is a big city, and there are plenty of opportunities to line their pockets. For now. Flickering here and there frivolous blonde has become a symbol of beautiful carefree life of such people, but it has long been known how fickle can be a game layout. One wrong card, and everything goes to tatters.

At the same time, pulling out a king or an ace at just the right moment is to make fortune smile broadly. “Odds and Evens” is a comedy of its time on the subject of any time. Nowadays, it's extremely difficult to imagine people like adventurer Johnny and trucker Charlie risking a deadly challenge to shadowy structures, and Corbucci has it all going on by himself, still with playful Italian charm. Grandiose surprises from this picture should not be expected, but here recently deceased Bud Spencer appears exactly as he wants to be remembered: kind, wise, strong and generous. Their duo with Terence Hill participated in a lot of movies, and let not all of them became successful, but this picture is rightfully one of the best. Rarely has screen excitement turned out to be so hilarious and harmless. Our life is still a game, and you just need to make a suitable bet, and then - fate will sort it out.
