User Review
1998 was a very rich year in the world of music and cinema. People with very different tastes were satisfied. Although few people remember this now...
In our school, there were several people in each class who bought videotapes of the film “Soldiers.” Everyone liked the film and it was very popular: classmates would show it to each other, and then their friends would pass it on.
Plot. GloboTek, a large military-technical company, is expanding its range of activities and entering the children's goods industry. The head of the company, Mr. Mars, has big plans; he is used to being number one in everything he does. Mars entrusts the development of a new generation of toys to two bumbling scientists. According to his plan, these toys should move, talk, develop, and run on “eternal” batteries. It was decided to release two series of toys: American commandos and their enemies, the Gorgonites, cute monsters programmed to defeat them. But due to a mistake by one of the scientists, military chips are implanted in the toys, and a real war begins!
The computer characters are superbly designed. Everything about them has been thought out: their movements, facial expressions, and appearance. The charismatic Major Chip gives the impression of a confident commander who will stop at nothing to achieve his goal. Incidentally, he strongly resembles our own Dmitry “Dynamite” Turchinsky, who, ironically, also often plays military heroes. The noble leader of the Gorgonites, Archer, has a human body and a head resembling that of a tiger. Archer's main task is to take care of his small band of monsters. He wants them to survive the upcoming battle and find their home again—the country of Gorgonia. An interesting point in the film is that the villains are played by American commandos, even though the film was made by Americans themselves, who are among the world's greatest patriots and proud of their army!
Soundtrack. The main musical theme of the film is the explosive song “War” by Bone Thugs-N-Harmony. A music video was made for the song, which became the best of that year.
Target audience. Considering that the film contains many scenes with explosions, I would recommend it for schoolchildren no younger than 5th grade. As for adults, I would recommend it to those who still have a touch of nostalgia for their childhood.
