The Rocky Horror Picture Show 4K 1975 Ultra HD 2160p
Jim Sharman's creation, now a cult classic, was criticized after its premiere in the UK and the US in 1975. Audiences didn't quite understand what to expect and weren't looking forward to seeing a musical in theaters. Ultimately, low attendance led to the film being pulled from theaters. The musical only made it to eight cities and grossed $22,000. It gained cult classic status with Tim Curry in the lead role a year later, in 1976. At that time, one of the New York cinemas began midnight screenings, which were also interactive—viewers could shout out lines from their seats. Such film screenings gained popularity in many American cities and soon revived The Rocky Horror Picture Show.
User Review
The cult kitsch musical Rocky Horror, which pays homage to trashy horror films, is not for everyone. Therefore, it is strongly recommended that “everyone” refrain from watching it. Specifically: pregnant women (unless they are long-time fans of The Rocky Horror Picture Show), homophobes, people with refined tastes, people prone to hypocrisy, as well as those who always expect “something more” from a film.
The musical promotes sexual promiscuity, same-sex relationships, incest, cannibalism, masochism, cruelty, and violence in various forms (this is the main stuff; the full list is much longer). All this is presented with a fair amount of sarcasm and through the antics of the actors, who, believe me, do an excellent job. If you watch closely how they play their roles, you can conclude that they really enjoy participating in such a performance. The ostentatious emotionality and apparent frivolity of what is happening are, in fact, the film's strengths. Perhaps that is why my first impression of what I saw was: “Awesome! What a crazy thing!”
The plot, like a patchwork quilt, consists of various clichés from classic horror films. Incidentally, it (the plot) is rather nonsensical, which in no way detracts from the film's appeal to a certain segment of the audience. If you know what a “double feature” is, who Ed Wood is (and don't feel nauseous from his Glen or Glenda), love parody films, and can easily guess which character the name of the local “town madman” Frank-N-Furter, who rules the ball at this strange celebration of life (and, in places, death), alludes to, then this film is worth watching. For everyone else, The Rocky Horror Picture Show will most likely seem like some kind of incomprehensible spectacle with a questionable audience. However, it's never too late to join that audience. Believe me, this musical has one.
And then there's the music. There are a few memorable songs that you may even have heard before. The rest will only be hummed by fans.
