User Review
Tim Burton's first feature film, which served as his genie lamp on the road to Hollywood triumphs. Although the film was mostly worked on by screenwriters, producers, and other creatures, Tim Burton, invited by Pee-Wee himself to participate in the project, made a huge contribution to the development of the picture. I would like to express my sincere gratitude to him and, of course, Paul Reubens for this excellent film.
It is an absolutely paradoxical creation. It is suitable for both small children and old grandfathers, to put it bluntly. It can be divided into two parts:
The perfect family comedy.
It's very simple. There is this cheerful, strong-willed P.V. who craves adventure, entertainment, and celebration. He undoubtedly has a favorite toy, the dream of his whole life (and perhaps his love?!) — a bicycle. And when it is suddenly stolen, P.V. rushes after his treasure without hesitation. Kids love stuff like that. There are dinosaurs, balls, cool guys on bikes (kind at heart, yeah), strange ladies in trucks (10 years of smoking in the world of the dead), silly clowns, lots of animals, and a happy ending. Watching this film, you can't help but feel like a little kid, tapping your feet to the cheerful melody of the great and inimitable Danny Elfman (I never tire of praising him) and singing “La-la-la-la”!!!
A typification of the American nation.
A very accurate grotesque comedy based on the archetypes of the American population. Here you have rich sons, dreamy bartenders (who dream of living in Paris, sailing on a snow-white yacht and drinking champagne), lifeguards from all over the world, and so on. Biting irony can be seen throughout the film. Clichés and stereotypes are ridiculed. Once again, we are being told that life is one big spontaneous situation. We don't know what will happen in the next second. You might say that the plot is rather simple and banal, typical. But Pi-Vi shows you from his own experience: do something, and then the end of your story will be clear—you will find your bike!
