Cold Storage 4K 2026 Ultra HD 2160p
A parasitic fungus breaks out from the lowest level of a former U.S. military base, where it was quarantined by the government decades ago. Rising temperatures underground trigger the proliferation of this contagious and rapidly mutating organism. It begins to affect all inhabitants of the complex, controlling their minds and destroying their bodies. Tikey and Naomi work at a self-storage facility that has set up shop on the grounds of the former base. Now, with the help of a retired biological terrorism expert, they must contain the threat and prevent the extinction of humanity.

I really love movies in this genre, and ever since playing "One of Us", the topic of fungi has piqued my interest even more. The movie didn’t make a lot of money, but it’s definitely worth your time if you’re looking for something lighthearted with a bit of dark humor. “Cold Storage” reminded me of those ’80s and ’90s movies about aliens taking over humanity.
Plot.
It begins with a backstory in a small village where debris from a NASA spacecraft has crashed. The locals were infected with a fungal virus that wiped them out in a short time. Two agents and a scientist arrived there, collected samples, but the scientist becomes infected with the fungus and later commits suicide. The village is destroyed, and the incident is filed away under “top secret.” The remains of the fungus, capable of wiping out humanity extremely quickly, are placed in an underground warehouse and securely sealed away; later, this warehouse becomes a commercial facility where locals store their junk. It would seem, what could possibly go wrong decades later?
Cast and Characters. It’s worth noting the star-studded cast, featuring Liam Neeson as a CIA agent and Joe Keery as a warehouse worker. Robert Quinn (the one played by Liam) is a veteran in the bioterrorism unit. He already has a bad back, which makes itself known, and there will be a couple of funny moments related to this in the movie. Travis Micham (the one who plays Kiri) is a social misfit who landed a job after prison, an extrovert who fills the space around him with his funny one-liners.
Plot. Overall, it turned out quite well. I don’t know how faithful it is to the book it’s based on, but I found it interesting to watch the story unfold. The romance doesn’t feel boring or contrived, and the characters have time to develop—and even surprise you at times. For example, the warehouse manager and his team, whose “sawing” was accompanied by dark humor.
Visually, despite its small budget, “Cold Storage” doesn’t look “cheap.” The infected look quite terrifying, and when they need to release spores and infect someone else, it’s practically a fireworks display on the screen.
I don’t know if there will be a sequel, but I felt it lacked scale and runtime. It felt like it ended too quickly; I would have liked to see more of the main characters and the spread of the fungus. There wasn’t enough suspense or tense moments. It left me feeling like something was left unsaid, but there’s a hint at the end suggesting a possible second part.
