Storyline
Tonny is released from prison - again. This time he has his mind set on changing his broken down life, but that is easier said than done.
User Review
Tonny, the dealer already known to us from the first part, returns home after serving time in prison. Prison hasn't changed him much. The bald junkie with “RESPECT” written on the back of his head continues his criminal activities as if nothing had happened. He steals other people's cars, participates in a massive car dealership robbery, and even agrees to work as a hit man. Tonny, however, has two problems: his accidentally knocked up girlfriend and a bad relationship with his father.
Refn shows the ambiguity of Tonny's character: on the one hand, his commitment to a promiscuous life, drugs, obscene establishments and criminal behavior is condemnable. On the other hand, one look at Tonny's father makes it clear that the apple does not fall far from the tree. Upbringing played a crucial role in shaping Tonny's personality. His indifferent attitude towards his own child is proof of this. At the same time, when he first takes the baby in his arms, his eyes shine like a teenager's. Tonny is a hostage to the degradation and criminal environment in which he grew up. Of course, that doesn't excuse his behavior. But somewhere in the depths of his soul he still has the rudiments of morality and ethics, strongly covered by rudeness, cruelty and the influence of drugs.
The inner feelings, perfectly played by Mads Mikkelsen, are reflected on Tonny's face. He differs from the other characters in the movie: while they are self-sufficient and have no hint of change for the better, Tonny, despite his fierce recklessness, still has a habit of hesitation, reflection and worry. Is Tonny able to change and start living a normal life? The director does not give a definite answer, only hints.
The second part of “Pusher” is made in the same smooth style. There is no excessive expression in the picture, and the camera movements during the change of plans look beautiful and realistic. Most of the time the creators of the movie focus on the main character, his emotions and actions. The movie is very similar to the original movie. The protagonist at the end of the story similarly reaches a rubicon, after which his life must change forever.
