Welcome to Twin Peaks! A quiet little town in a picturesque valley with a population of 51201, home to some darn good coffee and homemade cherry pie. Twin Peaks looks like a thriving place, home to upstanding citizens devoted to family life. At a glance, their lives seem idyllic. But only at first glance. Here everything is not at all what it seems, and everyone has something to hide. A mysterious death and an investigation, more like solving an unusual charade. A mysterious diary, mystical disappeared witnesses, a strange red room, nightmarish hallucinations, ominous omens and a young schoolgirl Laura Palmer burning her life away.

I myself am very bitter and sad because I did not enjoy the movie.
The TV series “Twin Peaks” had me in raptures and, if it weren't for a few unnecessary episodes in the second season, I could safely call “Twin Peaks” the best television series I've ever seen. I guess the series somewhat inflated my bar of expectations to an unbelievably high level that the movie never managed to surpass.
What I didn't like most of all was the acting confusion - instead of Agent Dale Cooper, there is a special agent unknown to us who is investigating a murder that Dale Cooper said he was investigating himself (1 episode of Twin Peaks). Well, come on - you can understand - the actor turned down the role, didn't want his name stuck to one image, etc. But literally half an hour later appears the same Dale Cooper and there is no limit to amazement and incomprehension - was it impossible to talk him into a full-fledged role? I don't understand. Also Dona, Laura's girlfriend, is played by another actress. I understand that the actress who played the role in the series was busy on other projects, but could not the movie be released a little later with a full cast?
Lynch did complain that the producers were “stifling” him and he couldn't make the series the way he wanted, but in the movie he was completely independent and what prevented him from doing something indescribable and stunning? What prevented him from doing something in the vein of the last episode? Moreover, we all know that Lynch is capable of making top notch movies. But this picture is a regular two-hour episode of Twin Peaks, not a standalone movie. The only thing that distinguishes the movie from the series is a large number of explicit and nude scenes, some of which are completely out of place.
What is remarkable about the movie - we are shown and told in detail about what motivated Laura to take drugs and sleep with anyone. Laura's character is fully developed in the movie and Sheryl Lee did a brilliant job with the role. But, it is told to us in detail in the series and why it was necessary to waste kilometers of film and time of filmmakers - it is not clear to me. No more secrets are revealed to us. It would be better to cut this movie into pieces and insert these episodes into the series - it would be more useful.
What else I didn't like - we were told so much about Laura's fears that there was very little time left for the key episodes - Laura's murder and Bob's “discovery”. Although it would have been desirable to devote a good half of the movie to them. And the scenes with Bob do not feel all the fear and horror that was felt when watching the series. “Black Lodge” is not as mysterious and mystical, there is absolutely no horror in it. The only, more or less sane scene is the end of the movie - a kind of ascension to heaven because of self-sacrifice in order to save another (those who watched it will understand).
To be honest - I am saddened to an unbelievable degree. I expected to see a stunning movie, which has no equal among its peers, and got a parody of the series. And as much as I hate to write a negative review, I have to do it so that others can understand why I am so upset and frustrated.
