Undoubtedly, the movie 'Flight Risk' has absolutely every flaw imputed to it. The fights look implausible. The special effects are hug and cry. The quality of the Alaskan mountains in the background is something out of a very early 'James Bond'.

Why the positive review then? I'll tell you in a moment.

The fact is that 'Flight Risk' is a very good movie in its genre. The main thing here is not to confuse the genre and start comparing it to hermetic detectives.

Remember another movie where everything was very strange, implausible, and sometimes funny in spite of the drama? And yet everyone sat with sweaty palms and squirmed in their chair. That's right, it was 'The Tower'.

Like 'The Tower', 'The Passenger' exploits your fear, and not the kind that comes into play when you watch horror movies. It's straight up animal fear. In 'The Tower' we sat together and were afraid of heights. In the sense that we were not worried about the characters, but directly felt our own fear. This fear drives us, the way we watch the movie. That's why you begin to think critically about 'The Tower' after you've calmed down.

It's the same in “The Passenger. Only here we are driven by the fear of being in an uncontrolled light-engine airplane, which is about to fall in the mountains (many people are afraid to be in a controlled one, of course).

In other words, the movie speaks directly to our adrenal hormones and does it just fine.

And it's like you know with your mind that you're looking at an unreleased episode of 'Cool Peak' from Pun Pun Pictures ('Drinkins, why are you crying?'). But your physical reactions tell you you're scared. Because it's filmed as if you're on that airplane with them. And for the last ten minutes, you're scraping the armrest like a mental case. That's why it's worth watching. And if you don't like it, it only means that you're a flint.
