Storyline
Jonathan Harker is sent away to Count Dracula's castle to sell him a house in Wismar where Jonathan lives. But Count Dracula is a vampire, an undead ghoul living off of men's blood. Inspired by a photograph of Lucy Harker, Jonathan's wife, Dracula moves to Wismar, bringing with him death and plague... An unusually contemplative version of Dracula, in which the vampire bears the curse of not being able to get old and die.

User Review

In my humble opinion, there is no need to write a lengthy review of Werner Herzog's film ‘Nosferatu the Vampyre’. It is well known (I think there is no doubt about it) that this film is a remake of the famous silent masterpiece Nosferatu, a Symphony of Horror, shot by the legendary film expressionist Friedrich Wilhelm Murnau in the early 1920s.

Personally, to be honest, I didn't see anything particularly interesting (let alone outstanding or magnificent) in this film. The plot here is, in general, frankly borrowed from Bram Stoker's classic Dracula (the same, of course, applies to Murnau's aforementioned creation), there is no “visual effect” (which is perhaps not surprising, considering at least the year of release of this film), the cast did a very good job, in my opinion, but it did not evoke any wild enthusiasm or storm of positive emotions in me.
If we recall, for example, Francis Ford Coppola's Oscar-winning creation ‘Bram Stoker's Dracula’, then the comparison here, in my opinion, will clearly not be in favor of the more classic ' The Nightmare Before Christmas, as Herzog's interpretation is much paler and duller than the vivid and truly atmospheric adaptation of Stoker's gothic novel, which was released in 1992 (all this, of course, is my subjective opinion about both films). Although, of course, we must take into account the ‘age difference’ between these two ‘vampire’ films by Coppola and Herzog.

In general, I believe that this work is only suitable for a single viewing (or, in other words, for familiarization). I am, of course, referring to avid fans and admirers of this particular genre of world cinema — for all other viewers, it is probably not even necessary to watch this film even once.

I think that only out of respect for the certain “classic” nature of this film can Werner Herzog's Nosferatu the Vampyre be given an average (or neutral, in other words) rating.
