Port of Shadows 4K 1938 Ultra HD 2160p
Jean, a soldier who has deserted from the colonial army, is traveling in a passing truck. He gets off in a foggy seaside town. Jean wants to board the steamer Louisiana and sail away to sunny climes, leaving this godforsaken place behind him forever. It seems that his dream is within reach—while waiting for the steamer, Jean only has to spend the night at the Panama tavern, fall in love with the most beautiful girl in the world, and die a stupid and accidental death.
User Review
One of Carné's greatest films. A well-crafted plot, remarkable cinematography, memorable music by Maurice Jaubert. Gabin's portrayal of the soldier Jean is unforgettable, so concise and vivid, while the character himself is taciturn and manly.
And the good-natured drunkard with his blue dream of sleeping on a white sheet, and Panama, playing the guitar in a semi-abandoned tavern by the sea, and the artist, disappointed in life and drowned in the sea — these are clear, meaningful images of the inhabitants of a port city shrouded in fog.
