Legend 4K 2015 Ultra HD 2160p
Reggie and Ronnie Kray were notorious twin criminals who terrorized London in the 1950s and 1960s. Armed robberies, racketeering, arson, assassination attempts, murders, and their own nightclub, which even Hollywood celebrities visited, are just a small part of the “exploits” of the most influential gang in the East End, led by the Kray brothers. But then their paths diverged. The brothers lived in constant conflict with each other and the world around them.

Mr. Helgeland had everything he needed to create a legend of the crime genre in cinema. The story of two famous, notorious gangsters—check. The stylish atmosphere of 1960s London was there. A hefty budget was there. Good, fresh supporting actors were there! And most importantly, Tom Hardy was there. Two of them, in fact! One could write at length about how insanely talented, incredibly versatile, and, most importantly, incredibly hard-working this actor is. The director clearly realized this, and so, having secured such a stunning and charismatic star, he immediately forgot about working on the other components of the film.
The plot turned out to be bland and monotonous. The music did not add to the atmosphere, but rather destroyed it. Most importantly, the director's work itself clearly fell short in terms of style, chic, and quality. Crime dramas either turn out to be masterpieces, with style and a crazy plot, or they turn out like Legend. The film clearly lacked the glamour, verve, chic, audacity and many other characteristics that usually give gangster films a certain zest and excitement. Casino, Goodfellas, and other masterpieces (even later ones, such as Snatch, with the same Hardy) blew audiences away with their charm, audacity, and storytelling. Viewers wanted to be the heroes of the story, wanted to walk side by side with De Niro, wanted to experience the emotions of the characters. The legend of it all was clearly lacking. No style, no charm, no ability to absorb the viewer for two hours of viewing. After an hour, even the incredible Hardy couldn't save it. The movie theater (the day after the long-awaited premiere) was filled with melancholy and despondency.
Is it worth going to see the film? For Hardy's sake, definitely. I can't say that this is the peak of his career or his best performance. Locke, Prikup, and Stewart revealed more interesting sides of him in his past life. In Legend, Tom Hardy is Tom Hardy—stylish (the only stylish thing in the film), insanely charismatic (in both roles), and incredibly charming. It's impossible to take your eyes off him, both for connoisseurs of true acting talent and for the entire female audience. But even he couldn't raise the film above a 6 out of 10. Critics were not at all enthusiastic, believing that Hardy should not have accepted this role. And I am very grateful to him for the opportunity to enjoy his magnificence for two hours, even though it did not overshadow the director's inexperience.
