The film tells the story of the complicated relationship between two women living in New York in the 1950s. One of them is a very young saleswoman who dreams of something more, while the other is a married woman who suffers from a lack of love.

I have never seen such a subtle, sensual, soul-stirring film about love between two women. For some reason, this theme is often explored with an unnatural touch of vulgarity and a desire to include more explicit scenes rather than show the essence of the relationship. In this case, the film turned out to be very intimate, even intimate, and very feminine.
In essence, this is a story about the difficulties that stand in the way of two lovers. It's just that we are used to seeing other couples with other problems on screen, the solutions to which have long been known. But what should the two heroines do when they realize that the familiar option is not for them? Here they have to make a choice: to be ridiculed by society or to suppress their true nature, to preserve their family or to pursue their happiness. But there are no right answers, each one has a catch.
I never would have thought that Cate and Rooney could look so incredibly good together on screen. They seem so comfortable with each other that when you watch them act, you don't see famous actresses at all, just characters with their own personal problems.
Every scene in which Teresa (Rooney) and Carol (Kate) appear together is impossibly intimate, because when they are together, nothing else exists for them but themselves. And their relationship is not just passion or a craving for something new, but a real feeling called love.
