Walter Mancini is a egoistical newspaper editor who is driving across California with his spiteful wife Eve, on a weekend getaway to save their troubled marriage. But after they pick up a stranded motorist, Adam, the man takes them hostage and reveals himself to be a fugitive who is running from both the police and his two accomplices after robbing a bank and making off with all the loot. Walter and Eve try to find a way to not only get rid of their passenger but also to deal with each other when both see the tempting offer of that stolen $2 million in cash that Adam has on him.

The United States, near the Mexican border. The focus is on a classic married couple experiencing a relationship crisis. She is annoyed by her closeness to him, and he is annoyed by her higher social status. The reasons why they are traveling together are not entirely clear, but it is obvious that things are very difficult for them. One day, she decides to give a ride to a young man...
The result is a remarkable action-packed film that combines the storylines of a criminal hitchhiker and a family conflict. The film cannot be compared to the American versions of The Hitchhiker, as they are simply “maniac” films.
Italian director Campanile makes excellent use of all his directorial skills: tension, rhythm, close-ups, unusual plot twists, and eroticism. Incidentally, the leading female role is played by Corinne Cléry, one of the most beautiful and sexy actresses of the 1970s.
In my opinion, Clery played one of the best female roles that year. And who was she competing with that year? The starry but vague Jane Fonda in Julia, the modest Diane Keaton in Annie Hall, or the simple-minded intellectual Marsha Mason in Goodbye Girl. In my opinion, Corinne had a much more vivid and interesting role, despite the fact that the film is unlikely to appeal to “highbrow” intellectuals.
In addition to Corinne Clery, David Hess and Franco Nero also star in the film. Franco plays a very unusual role for his career, but a very successful one, while Hess continues the gallery of characters he began in The Last House on the Left and developed in House on the Edge of the Park.
