That’s Guy Ritchie’s *In the Grey*: not a crime, but the choreography of a crime, where the cut of a jacket matters more than the punch.

Tycoon Salazar owes a Wall Street firm a billion and refuses to pay up. To collect the debt, they hire Rachel (Eiza González)—a lawyer from the “gray zone”—and her two loyal partners (Cavill and Gyllenhaal). What follows is Ritchie’s signature weaving: a multi-layered plot with a dozen unnecessary, decorative twists, more beautiful than the case requires.

Here, Ritchie is a jeweler who’s been forced to swing a sledgehammer. His talent lies in subtle intrigue, while the action feels tacked on. The first half is sluggish; the film only picks up momentum as it nears the finale.

But beneath the glossy surface, there are three things that make it more than just an empty spectacle. The “gray zone” credo: dive into the fire, but with caution.
