Michael Clayton, a top-tier New York specialist, works for one of the most renowned law firms. For 15 years now, he has been defending the interests of his firm’s wealthy clients. It would seem that he can turn any situation to his client’s advantage, which is why he has long been nicknamed “the Cleaner.” But suddenly, his career takes a turn. The firm where Clayton works has been representing the chemical conglomerate U/North for six years. Unexpectedly, new evidence emerges in the case, and Clayton’s friend, attorney Arthur Idens—who is handling the case—steals a folder containing confidential documents and switches sides to join the prosecution.
