Horror movie based on a story by Bram Stoker. Count Dracula sails on the ship “Demeter” from Transylvania to London and devours the crew members who begin to guess his existence.
User Review
A story about the ship “Demeter”, which undertook to transport suspicious crates, in one of which Dracula was sleeping.
A free adaptation of a chapter from Bram Stoker's book “Dracula”, where the director illustrates the journey of the bloodsucker from point A to point B, spicing it all up with a spectacular fight on a ship of sailors and a sinister “entity”, reminiscent of the sea version of “Alien”. Films about the world-famous vampire usually throw out the part where he sails to the shores of England, or do without a short montage, showing the essence in general terms. And this tape should be regarded only as a piece of history, transferred to the screens, which all this time remained in the shadows.
The plot is all as clear as possible from the first minutes: there is a monster, there is a group of people, where every night disappears one or a couple of sailors. In addition, the audience knows in advance what will happen and how everything will end. But for all that, the picture pays special attention to the visual style, creating a gloomy and ghostly atmosphere - even in the scenes that take place in the daytime, which is both frighteningly beautiful and eerie, and Dracula himself is presented in a grotesque and demonic image.
Two points where the movie falters are present: the dragged out timing and the completely illogical decision in the finale. Even the formulaic script is not negative - executed with quality visuals, where the crew of a doomed merchant ship gradually lose their minds and connection to reality, while they are pursued and killed by a sinister “demon”.
All in all, it's an obvious and modest but effective nautical horror with no pretense of inventing anything new.
