Storyline
A corrupt businessman commits a murder and the only witness is the girlfriend of another businessman with close connections to the Chinese government, so a bodyguard from Beijing is dispatched to help two Hong Kong cops protect the witness. Complications arise when the bodyguard and the witness must confront their deep feelings for one another.

From the initial shots it becomes clear that John is an excellent bodyguard, but his methods of defense are somewhat different from those required by his academy. Even considering the unconventional approach to the execution of the task, Jet Li's hero is exactly the guy you can rely on, entrust him with dangerous tasks and even your own life. “The Bodyguard from Beijing” movie, which using elements of the famous movie with Kevin Costner, retains its personality, bringing its own additions, which definitely makes the movie very dynamic and watchable. Jet Li in the movie is quite young and energetic. Unlike his later pictures, in “Bodyguard from Beijing” there are few special effects, but in a complicated situation it is a big plus, because there is more room for well staged shootouts, fight scenes and even a love line, which to put it mildly does not bode well, but you will recognize it yourself. Yes, yes, yes! Like many stories about bodyguards, the Chinese story is not without its romance and there is a nice Chinese woman in the movie, who needs to be protected, and nobody can cope with it better than him - the hero of Jet Li!

Who is the person to be protected? A young and spoiled Chinese girl named Michelle. In addition, she is unspeakably lucky, because it is her rich businessman boyfriend who becomes the one who hires John for the service. Why would a successful and rich girl need a protector? The thing is that Michelle witnessed a murder, and only she can bring out the head of the Chinese mafia, but the trouble is that other witnesses were brutally killed. The atmosphere is very tense. However, the film will not keep you in full tension, as the plot added two policemen, who are also obliged to protect Michelle, but in the interval of time when they do not do it, they are able to cause a smile with their dialogues and to please in certain episodes. Despite the circumstances of the threat to her own life, Michelle is skeptical of her bodyguard and this happens from the very first minutes of the appearance of Jet Li's character. But such a seasoned servant as John, does not pay attention to whims and acts according to his code. John acts very professionally and although at times it seems that the bodyguard overreaches, becoming too intrusive and meticulous, he can not be blamed for this, because the cause is good and it is a matter of honor. Perhaps, if his life were at stake, the protagonist would not be so careful, but this is about someone else's life.

The theme is not new, and the plot is quite simple and uncomplicated, but Cory Yuen's picture is not boring to watch. There are shootouts, and competent camerawork, and some comic elements do not destroy the atmosphere of a strong and good action movie. When the story overflows not only with the task of the thugs to kill the “target”, and grows into a personal vendetta of one of them, John has a worthy opponent, which decorates the timing with tension and foreshadows interesting events. And of course! In the finale, you can expect a pretty spectacular fight. Thus, the movie “Bodyguard from Beijing” is a strong and quality action movie, and even if the movie does not stand out among other Jet Li movies, it is still worth watching. This is another story about duty, honor, love, about fulfilling your task at the cost of life and this is another story about a hero, whose task is to protect.
