Vampires 4K 1998 Ultra HD 2160p

On assignment from the Vatican, Jack Crowe, a hereditary vampire hunter, and his friend and partner Montoya mercilessly kill ghouls, but their main target is a particularly dangerous vampire Valek, a native of Prague, born in the 1300s. Jack and Montoya are aided in their vampire hunt by a young priest armed with knowledge from ancient treatises on bloodsuckers. Valek searches the States for an ancient crucifix with special powers. Vampires are known to be afraid of sunlight, which kills them. Performing a magical ritual with the crucifix will allow Valek to not be afraid of sunlight and make him all-powerful. Vampire hunters must hurry, while Valek is still vulnerable, while he can still be killed....

The movie, which is a story about the so-called crusade of vampire hunters for the head of a ghoul named Valek, showed everyone that at a rather old age John Carpenter is capable of producing masterpieces, not inferior in strength to “Escape from New York” and “The Thing”.

Motion picture, despite the skeptical reproaches of critics before the release of the film, was surprisingly solid and powerful, presenting Carpenter in the highest light.

Quite interesting, was the choice of James Woods for the role of the main character, Carpenter did not miss, Woods coped with his role for all one hundred and twenty percent. His vampire hunter is a real scum who recognizes no one but himself. He's capable of killing anyone if need be, especially if it's a vampire. Daniel Baldwin, so simply shocking, in fact, the actor he is no actor at all, but in this movie he suddenly had some charisma.

It becomes clear that Daniel should get into good directorial hands, he can show a good acting class. Even more surprised by his game former porn star Sheryl Lee. Her role, of course, is not very difficult, but here she looks worthy. Thomas Ian Griffith is good, typical, such a ghoul. Maximilian Schell is a bit of a disappointment. No, he plays beautifully, he is an Oscar winner after all, he just plays a bit strained and completely without intonation, in the same rhythm, what at the moment when everyone believes that he is an honest cardinal doing everything for the Vatican, what at the moment of his exposure. The most underrated actor in the movie is Tim Guinee. He has a very prominent role as the Padre, but for some reason they put him in the opening credits after Shell, but he clearly has a bigger role. The reason for this is clear, though. Shell is the star after all, but Guinee is not.

Overall, the movie leaves a positive impression. A great horror movie, quite in the spirit of Carpenter. A-plus on a five-point system.
