The events unfold in the future, where the fashion for pop stars has reached unprecedented proportions. Fans are ready not only to tear their idols, as they call it, to pieces, but also with great joy to acquire those viral diseases that their idols are sick.

Sid Mach is an employee of a clinic that sells injections of the very viruses supplied by sick celebrities for their obsessed fans. In addition to his official work, Sid also smuggles the viruses to pirates, delivering them in his own body. On one such voyage, however, he himself becomes infected with the disease that killed superstar Hannah Geist. When this fact becomes known, Sid becomes a target for collectors and crazed fans. To prevent him from suffering the same fate as the late Hannah, Sid must unravel the mystery surrounding her death as quickly as possible.

As it sometimes happens, I started watching the movie by accident: on Sunday evening I intended to watch the first five minutes, to make sure that I had nothing to lose and... My plans changed. It turned out that the movie drew me in and kept me until the credits. Knowing nothing about the film itself or its creator, and certainly not comparing director Brandon Cronenberg with his famous father, I just got stuck in this cinematic twisted world, where the shifted center of gravity of moral foundations takes you to the beyond.

It feels like the whole world presented is affected by the virus of a new religion - the worship of media personalities. And the analogies with Christian teaching are so obvious that they are simply without disguise: take and eat my body and drink my blood. And the traders are here, but no one chases them out of the temple: the business of selling viruses is successful, the goods are in demand. Which is confirmed by the black market. And the objects of worship don't belong to themselves. They have been filmed a thousand times on gigabytes of recordings, copied cells, drawn DNA and it seems that they are infected and dead on purpose, so that there was something to sell. Isn't that the way of the cross? Just for the salvation of what kind of humanity do idols accept such a life? And there is no one and nothing to save from, because there are no moral contradictions and disagreements with the external environment of any of the characters. Everything is normal, no one needs an antivirus in principle.

And yet, despite the plot moves and surreal messages to the viewer, the movie holds its protagonist Sid March, played by young actor Caleb Landry Jones. Unusual appearance, muted red hair, skin covered with spots of freckles so densely that it is already perceived as an ornament of tattoos, together with the general emotional restraint of the character create a very captivating image. And who is he really, this protagonist: a mole, a fan, a carrier of antivirus? In the course of the movie, the poor guy changes his status many times. And at some point in the movie, when Sid hangs on the tubes and wires of his antivirus machine like on a cross, he looks like a martyr of faith. And all this in the most authentic execution, and the naturalism of some episodes just makes you cover your eyes.

In my opinion, there are plot failures in the script, moments left without explanation.

In any case, the movie is worth watching, to see something memorable and worthy of discussion. Well, yes, you need it, this Antivirus.
