Millie and Tim (Alison Brie and Dave Franco) move from the big city to the countryside. Millie has been offered a great position at a local school, and Tim, who can't seem to build a successful music career, decides to drop everything and go with her. The move is not easy, and pretty soon the couple faces a serious crisis: Millie and Tim are clearly tired of each other, but they can't even remember their past lives outside of their relationship. To cheer themselves up, they go for a walk in the woods, where they accidentally stumble upon a mysterious cave. When Millie and Tim return home, they begin to feel strange: they are incredibly drawn to each other, and it is almost impossible to resist this attraction.

User Review

A completely new perspective on love and relationships.

Something you have never seen or experienced before.

If you don't expect anything specific from the film and don't overload yourself with unnecessary information before watching it, you can really enjoy it and get the most out of it.

The film is captivating from the very first minutes—visually, through the characters, and through the plot. The plot is simple, but this is precisely what allows you to empathize with the characters more deeply and focus on their interactions. The viewer literally dissolves into their world, especially in the first half of the film, which, in my opinion, is the most successful. There is both horror and drama here. Moreover, the horror component turned out to be eerily atmospheric and aesthetically beautiful.
The film provides a deep dive into the history of the characters' relationships, showing not only the current situation, but also what has happened to them over the years. It becomes clear what led them to their current state and why everything is happening the way it is.
After watching it, one gets the impression that body horror is gaining popularity again—so much so that it has reached the mass audience. People are talking about it, it's on everyone's lips. Ten years ago, this genre was already popular in certain circles, but now, thanks to competent advertising and well-known actors, it is taking on a new form and wave of interest. This is both good and bad. It's bad because now many films use the same techniques, sounds, and effects, which leads to a loss of originality.

At some point, the film may seem reminiscent of Substance (2024), but only conceptually and in terms of genre. Apart from some visual and sound solutions, they have nothing in common.

If we were to compare them (although this is not entirely correct), Together seems more interesting and closer to the viewer. Its ideas are easier to project onto oneself, and everyone can find something of their own in it. I am sure that after watching it, you will discuss it for a long time.

Yes, it is not as visually striking and the framing is not as memorable as Substance, but that is its advantage. The dark tones and natural lighting do not distract, but emphasize the tense relationships between the characters.

There are essentially three characters in the film: the main couple and one secondary character who gets a little screen time.

There is chemistry between the actors, but not in the traditional sense. They look great together, and it is clear that they understand each other well (there is a double pun here:

they are husband and wife in real life, so it is not surprising that they played their roles so convincingly.

The film is about feelings that are repeatedly reflected on the screen.

There is no doubt about their acting. It feels like they weren't even acting, but simply drawing on their personal experience — and that's entirely possible. It's no coincidence that a real married couple was cast in the lead roles: you couldn't find better candidates for such a project.

The plot is well written and logically concluded. There are no ambiguities, open endings, or unnecessary questions. Everything is concise, clear, and understandable. There is nothing to complain about.

The main thing to understand is that this is not pure horror. It is steeped in horror from beginning to end, but while the first half has some scary moments (including jump scares), the second half is classic body horror, transitioning into trash and even black comedy.

It may seem that the film has changed tone abruptly, but if it draws you in, you won't notice. Despite all the oddities, the tension and interest remain until the very end. It would seem that there aren't many options for the denouement, but this in no way spoils the impression of the finale.

Together leaves a pleasant aftertaste — so much so that you want to watch it again.
