A group of researchers from an international spacecraft finds life on Mars. They do not yet know what events will lead to their discovery.

Descendant of the "Alien"

"Alive" suddenly turned out to be a good space horror. Being the representative of such a rare genre, the film naturally created around itself a stir. In fact, he does not present anything new and according to the concept it turns out to be the same "Stranger". But, nevertheless, the film crew made something of their own, so the film looks more original.

The plot of the film is that researchers at the ISS get samples of rocks from Mars and discover in them a living organism, which is given the name Calvin. The beginning does not look particularly interesting and banal in terms of the plot, but we are shown nice to the eye cosmic landscapes and excellent camera work, really able to distract from the boring string.

The director of the film Daniel Espinosa, who previously took down the failed "No. 44" and the more successful "Access Code in Cape Town", this time decided to try himself in a new genre. As it turned out, not in vain. Positive impact of experience with thrillers. In the "Live" a lot of tense moments, the characters of the characters are not very well disclosed, but this does not prevent them from empathizing. What is noteworthy, in all Espinos' films, apart from the debut, is a wonderful actor's composition. It's difficult to explain why, but somehow he manages to attract good actors. "Live" turned out to be a mixture of "Alien" and "Gravity." At first the film looks a little ragged, but then it is leveled and already there is a clearer narrative. In general, the director managed to correctly use the script, actors and camera work, making a complete picture.

The script was directed by Rhett Reese and Paul Wernick, who worked on such films as "Deadpool" and "Welcome to Zombiland". It's strange that with such writers from the "Live" did not make a horror comedy, in my opinion, it would look original. And so, in the script there is nothing particularly new and inventive, not counting the bold final turn. The characters are not very well written, except for David, who was embodied on the screen by Jake Gyllenhaal. Nevertheless, thanks to the direction and high-quality visual component, the film looks very cheerful and exciting.

In the film, a powerful cast, but I will sing Hiroyuki Sanada and Jake Gyllenhaal. They have not only the best acting work, but also the characters are much more interesting than others. Also in the film were starred Ryan Gossling, already worked before with the film's director, Rebecca Ferguson and Olga Dykhovichnaya, who played the role of the captain of the crew.

Separately it is worth mentioning the main "villain" of the film: the Martian multicellular organism, which received the name Calvin. His design is not very creative and not as memorable as, for example, the Alien. Calvin adorn the intellect and the motives with which he was endowed by the creators of the film. It is a terrible thing that he does not personify evil, but kills to survive and grow and thanks to his intellect, he looks absolutely unbeatable.

The Oscar-nominated cameraman, Sheimas McGarvey, who was twice nominated for Oscar, appreciably focused on the camera style of Emmanuel Lubecký in the film "Gravitation", and very successfully. McGarvey showed excellent, well-trained camera work, especially when traveling on the ISS.

The composer of the film Jon Ekstrand and director Daniel Espinosa, already worked together on the film "Number 44". As in "No. 44", there are a couple of powerful compositions in "Live", which make the atmosphere in the right places, but in general, nothing memorable.

"Living", in general, was a success. Tense space horror, with an excellent cast and camera work, as well as a good direction, but with a banal storyline. The authors of the picture admitted that they were inspired by the "Stranger", and, apparently, did it too enthusiastically. And although the picture is not devoid of ingenuity, in my opinion, it was possible to do something more original.
