Lester Burnham is going through a midlife crisis. He isn’t respected or valued at work, and his happy family is nothing but a facade. His wife, Caroline, is having a passionate affair with a coworker, and his sullen teenage daughter, Jane, is infatuated with a neighbor who has been in a psychiatric hospital. Tormented by emotional anguish, Lester falls into depression. But unexpectedly, he falls in love with his daughter’s classmate, Angela, and this passion gives Lester a powerful new lease on life.
