Whispering Smith vs. Scotland Yard 4K 1952 Ultra HD 2160p
An American railroad detective bumps heads with Scotland Yard in "Whispering Smith vs. Scotland Yard" (the USA theatrical title as shown on site in all 9 production stills and poster no. 12) in a film produced in England by Julian Lesser in association with Exclusive Films, Ltd. Coming to England on a vacation Whispering Smith (Ricard Carlson) is immediately involved in a case of "apparent suicide." Starting the case as a lark, Smith quickly finds himself up to his ears in mayhem, lovely suspect Louise Balfour (Greta Gynt), pretty secretary Ann Carter (Rona Anderson), and a ring of blackmailers including a crooked lawyer and a puppet fancier. Scotland Yard had found a death to be a suicide, but Smith finds it was a murder and while dodging a similar fate himself he has time for light romance with Ann Carter.
User Review
Just like its lead character, an American detective vacationing and solving a murder case in London, "Whispering Smith Hits London" is a film caught in limbo, somewhere between an American film noir and a British "cozy" mystery. There is a big plot twist that will be rather obvious to genre fans (the minute you hear about an "unrecogizable body", you immediately get suspicious....), but overall it's an interesting little movie. Whispering Smith himself is a pretty nondescript hero, but there are a couple of very good supporting performances by Herbert Lom and Greta Gynt; both Gynt and Rona Anderson are stunningly beautiful.
