Two friends, Matt and Jay, dream of performing at the local club, “Rivolli,” with their “band.” During rehearsals, Jay plays simple piano parts, while Matt gets up to all sorts of weird antics: one minute he’s reciting a monologue by a homophobic Ugandan priest, the next he’s inventing an absurd dance. Or he starts threatening a cob of corn. If you imagine Nick Cave’s lyrics being edited by Nathan Fielder, you’d get something close to what Matt does.

For me, it did. It is messy in a deliberate way, and that messiness becomes part of its charm.

Still, when it works, it really works. It is a fun and creative experience that stands out for its originality and energy, delivering something that feels different from most comedies around.
