Clash of the Titans 4K 1981 Ultra HD 2160p
A magical fantasy based on the adventures of Perseus, a hero from ancient Greek mythology and the mortal son of Zeus.
User Review
I watched this movie because of the film of the same name coming out this year, starring Sam “I’m Saving the World for the Third Time” Worthington, which is actually based on it. It’s still too early to compare French director Leterrier’s film with the original, but it’s already clear that they’ve made the movie darker and more intense. For now, let’s enjoy this vibrant, original film.
The 1981 *Clash of the Titans* is a lighthearted—though not without its flaws—fairy tale that is, however, steeped in the atmosphere of—I’m not afraid to say—a true ancient Greek myth.
It’s based on a simplified version of the myth of Perseus. I wrote “simplified” for a reason, because how did the Kraken—a monster from Norse mythology—end up here, and Bellerophon was probably upset that his beloved horse belongs to another hero. But if you ignore such minor details (and there are quite a few of them), the film treats the myth with care.
As for the special effects, they look pretty good for their time. But on the other hand, compared to the classic *Star Wars*, they frankly pale in comparison. I won’t even mention the old women holding what looks like a giant eye in their hands or the other animatronic monsters. Though why am I nitpicking—it is the ’80s, after all.
As for the actors, I can’t really single anyone out in particular, though Harry Hamlin looked pretty good as the young son of the god of thunder, and the great Olivier gave an ironic portrayal of the domineering father.
Overall, despite its flaws, the movie is worth watching if you’re into ancient Greek myths.
