Storyline
Michael Dorsey is an unemployed actor with an impossible reputation. In order to find work and fund his friend's play he dresses as a woman, Dorothy Michaels, and lands the part in a daytime drama. Dorsey loses himself in this woman role and essentially becomes Dorothy Michaels, captivating women all around the city and inspiring them to break free from the control of men and become more like Dorsey's initial identity. This newfound role, however, lands Dorsey in a hot spot between a female friend/'lover,' a female co-star he falls in love with, that co-star's father who falls in love with him, and a male co-star who yearns for his affection.

This movie is a must have for everyone to revisit every six months. You don't find such an atmosphere in movies very often. I love such movies that are not one-sided and straightforward. After all, this movie could have come out very vulgar and silly. But Sydney Pollack made it both a comedy and a drama, putting a lot of meanings into it.

This is a story about actors who cannot find themselves. A story about the impossibility of realization. It is a pity that this theme is bypassed, because it is very relevant to this day in the actor's environment (and not only in the actor's environment). This is how the protagonist, seeking new opportunities and roles, turns into a woman and achieves amazing success as an actor (actress). Already this decision alone speaks of him as an outstanding person, doesn't it? And from that moment on, drama turns into comedy, and comedy again intertwines with drama. Being a woman, the hero meets an actress and falls in love with her. But how can he explain everything to her?

Hoffman's acting is second to none. You look at him as Dorothy and there is no doubt that this is a woman. Truly Hoffman has created one of the most talented characters in movie history.
