User Review
There were many such films at the time. About unhappy teenage love and people who break away from the mainstream crowd. Then the intensity kept increasing until various American Pie films began to appear (as the most prominent example).
But even if a film is one of many, that doesn't mean it's bad. Yes, it's mostly a one-time watch. Yes, the script is a bit far-fetched, although as a teenager (the main consumer of such films), you're unlikely to pay much attention to that. The drama turns into humor, and from there it grows into surrealism — well, that's quite a common picture. The actors overact, which is also nothing new for a comedy.
And yet the film has its own wonderful features. For example, the charming Diane Franklin and her incomparable smile. Or the wonderful Chinese brothers. Or the desire to never give up, even if the probability of defeat is much greater than the probability of victory.
All in all, it's a decent teen movie that is still worth watching even at a later age.
And there is a feeling that in his youth, John Cusack allowed himself much more acting recklessness than in later years. It's as if he has become more withdrawn over time.
