It's hard to even find the words to describe this film, because it's impossible to convey the feeling of complete delight it evokes.
The plot seems simple: ordinary guys get into big trouble. But it all depends on how this plot is presented to the viewer. You can watch this film dozens of times and never get tired of it. It's impossible to take your eyes off the actors. They are all charming and likable guys. Watching them, you realize that philosophical depth in acting is necessary, but not essential. It's clear that they are acting with all their hearts. Jackie Chan's smiling face alone is enough to make you smile. Even the “bad guys” — the characters played by Kit Vitali and Benny Urquidez — are charismatic.
The stunts are simply mind-boggling! The viewer sees how flexible Yuen Biao is. What incredibly refined techniques Jackie Chan displays. Benny Urquidez proves his nickname - ‘Jet’. And the not-so-skinny Sammo Hung demonstrates that the main thing is not body mass, but the ability to control it.
The final battle is impossible to look away from. God forbid you miss anything... The stunt choreography alone is worth it. The whole trio worked on it: Hung, Chan, and Yuen. Many scenes were reshot dozens, if not hundreds, of times for what seemed like a single, insignificant blow. By the way, there is a feature in films starring Jackie Chan that you don't see in others: almost no fall ends with just a fall. It ends with another stunt. Where else can you see that...?
The fight between Benny Urquidez and Jackie Chan has already become legendary. No wonder it is recognized as one of the best fights in film history. Despite the fact that most of the moves are not the most effective, who cares! After all, these two were beating each other up in a way that was not just for the movies. Both Chan and Urquidez are short. Jackie is agile and flexible. Benny is incredibly fast and accurate. The speed of the entire fight is insane. And this is not fast-forwarded film, but the result of painstaking work. The way Urquidez accidentally blew out a candle with a sharp kick can never be repeated. And that says a lot about him as a fighter.
Conclusion: sometimes guys like the trio in this film blow up the screen with what viewers sometimes lack: fun and silliness. But underneath it all lies true mastery...
