Dogma 4K 1999 Ultra HD 2160p
Two fallen angels of vengeance, Loki (Damon) and Bartleby (Affleck), condemned to spend eternity in Wisconsin for their sins, learn that they have a chance to return home, that is, to paradise. To do so, they need only take advantage of a Catholic dogma proclaimed by an innovative cardinal: anyone who passes through the consecrated arch in a cathedral in New Jersey will receive absolution. By passing through it, Loki and Bartleby will become mortal, receive absolution, be resurrected, and return home (to paradise). There is only one catch. If this happens, everything on earth will disappear, including the human race. The only thing that can stop the homesick guys is the great-great... great-great-niece of Jesus Christ named Bethany (Fiorentino), who is helped by the black thirteenth apostle Rufus (Chris Rock) and two of the most ragged mortal prophets - Jay and Silent Bob. They are joined by a muse named Serendipity (Hayek), who has been living on Earth for a long time and works as a stripper...

Of course, Dogma should not be taken seriously. Some deeply religious people will surely spit angrily and promise the creators an eternity in hell. Personally, I don't see this film as an insult to religion and God. For me, Dogma is, first and foremost, a clever and subtle mockery of orthodoxy and blind faith. It pokes fun at the average American who goes to church every Sunday, confesses, and follows the traditions of their religion, but doesn't think about the concept of faith itself or the principles of human morality. In his film, Smith pushes a rational, sober, and yet completely simple idea that comes to us from the mouth of the “13th Apostle”: it is not necessary to have faith, the main thing is to have ideas. Everyone chooses what to believe in—God, the Supreme Being, Intelligent Dust, or, like the Pastafarians, the Flying Spaghetti Monster (there is such a joke religion). In other words, the main thing is to have a good head on your shoulders, to be able to think about what you believe in, and not to take every phrase in the Bible literally.
This is a funny and original comedy. And we only hear “below the belt” jokes from Jay, and they are an integral part of his image, so they do not cause negative emotions. The characters in the film are surprisingly colorful. And the actors are very pleasing. To be honest, I never liked Ben Affleck, but after Dogma, he revealed himself to me as a pretty good actor. I think the role of Bartleby is one of the best, if not the best, in his career, and he and Matt Damon make a good duo. Alan Rickman impressed me the most, perhaps — an imposing and stylish Metatron, whose sarcastic remarks, sometimes with offended intonations, cannot fail to make you smile.
If you watch Dogma without any preconceptions and take the film as a reckless comedy with an unusual plot, you are guaranteed to enjoy it.
