Tucker: The Man and His Dream 4K 1988 Ultra HD 2160p
Based on a true story. Shortly after World War II, Preston Tucker is a grandiose schemer with a new dream, to produce the best cars ever made. With the assistance of Abe Karatz and some impressive salesmanship on his own part, he obtains funding and begins to build his factory. The whole movie also has many parallels with director Coppola's own efforts to build a new movie studio of his own.
User Review
In my opinion, this film by Francis Ford Coppola, the legendary creator of such great films as ‘The Godfather’ and ‘Bram Stoker's Dracula’, is simply one of the most underrated phenomena in cinema, a film that went almost unnoticed abroad, let alone in our country, A film that stays with you long after you've seen it, a film that, with its depth and emotionality, is likely to hook even the most inexperienced viewer, a film that you want to watch again and again, a film whose meaning will always be relevant, regardless of the situation at hand.
First of all, the film attracts with its beautifully presented atmosphere of the American 1940s, a period when private enterprise was booming in America, when only the strongest survived in business, and many were driven not by ideas and dreams, but by the desire to get rich quick.
Secondly, the film has a stunning cast, and when watching it, you get the feeling that there is some strange, inexplicable connection between the actors. This magical interaction emphasizes the brilliant image created by the unique Jeff Bridges. I have always loved the work of this very talented and charismatic actor, and here he simply delighted me! He doesn't just brilliantly embody the character of Preston Tucker, he literally lives as Preston Tucker, as if two personalities, two different souls, have merged into one body and are improvising in front of the camera. What an exciting, memorable, and emotional character! Looking into Bridges' eyes, watching his facial expressions and gestures, you become completely mesmerized, your entire gaze all your attention and all your emotions are completely focused on the actions and emotions of Preston Tucker, a man who was obsessed with the idea and dream of his entire life, the meaning of his entire existence: to create a car that was safe, fast, maneuverable, with a stunning design — in a word, the car of the future. His persistence and steadfastness in the face of difficulties and the “business” system simply commands respect.
And thirdly, of course, there is the meaning behind it all. Coppola did a very good job, and I would say a very competent job, of working on the theme of ideas and dreams. He looked at it from the perspective of just one person, but how deeply he did it! Because when a person is true to their dream, to some idea, and most importantly, if it is a worthy and noble idea, then there is nothing more beautiful than when it is brought to life. A person without an idea, a person without a dream, becomes an empty, soulless, and lifeless shell, whose meaning in life boils down to nothing more than eating, drinking, sleeping, continuing their lineage, and dying like an animal. But where are human feelings? Where is the desire to leave behind not only offspring that are far from eternal, but something that your descendants will remember and honor, knowing that it was created not by some devil on a horn, but by you, with your own hands, your own mind, your own ideas, and your own heart? After all, even one of the ancient philosophers once said that the memory of descendants is the greatest reward. And the reward for Tucker, who went down in history as the man who revolutionized the automotive industry, will be this amazing film.
