The Garbage Pail Kids Movie 4K 1987 Ultra HD 2160p
A cute fourteen-year-old boy is friends with the eccentric owner of a strange antique shop. He allows him to touch and examine everything in his shop, except for an old garbage can, which is always covered with a lid. The teenager likes a girl, but the boys in her group bully him. When he once again tried to escape from them in the shop, the dustbin tipped over and a greenish slime spilled out of it, which later turned into little monsters. Among them was even a talking crocodile! These little creatures helped our hero solve many of his life problems. It all started when these creatures began sewing super-fashionable clothes. Needless to say, the girl of his dreams was simply delighted. The film, aimed at children and teenagers, features a lot of songs and music, but to be honest, not everyone will like it.

This fantastic comedy from 1987 found itself in a rather interesting position: whether due to the barrage of negative criticism it received or because the plot is simply outdated, it can be said that it is only of value to two categories of people: those who watched it in their distant childhood and want to rewatch it for nostalgia's sake, or those who are consciously interested in such films. In fact, even the first category of people would be better off not watching it as adults, because, as we know, even the worst movie can seem absolutely amazing when you're a kid.
Does this movie deserve to be called “the worst movie in history” (as some critics have called it)? Of course not. There are worse films. Films that are bland and unimaginative. But if there's one thing the creators of Trash Can Kids have, it's imagination — they just lack the experience to channel it in the right direction and implement it competently.
And the task is not an easy one - to make a film in which the main characters are the characters from the most famous collectible postcards. There was no background, no history or mythology behind the round-faced little people, so everything had to be invented from scratch. And that's how it turned out. The main character of the story is a teenager named Dodger, who for some reason gets beaten up by people twice his age, including some very strange girls, one of whom he falls in love with. It's a very strange and questionable plot twist, the stupidity of which is only surpassed by the clothing line, which seems to have been invented just to fill screen time, and the plot about the “house of freaks,” which came out of nowhere. As a result, while little happens in the first half hour of the film, too much happens in the rest of it, and not all of it is logical or interesting.
Shortly after the film begins, his friend, a wise gray-haired old man who owns a “lamp” antique shop, tells him not to open a forbidden trash can (which for some reason is standing in the middle of the shop), but as a result of plot twists, the container ends up being opened and the thick-faced characters from the postcards, who turn out to be big jokers and mischief-makers, escape. The jokes here, by the way, are often repeated—so many people are unpleasantly surprised to learn that the film repeats the gag about someone, excuse me, peeing in their pants more than three times.
On the other hand, many people unfairly criticize the puppets themselves—the puppets are just puppets, and the animatronics masters did everything possible to make them look as lifelike as possible and bring the characters drawn on the postcards to life on screen. Incidentally, the genius and maestro of visual effects, as well as the creator of the best puppet monsters in cinema, John Karl Buehler, was responsible for the design of the puppets, while their actual production was assigned to Mechanical and Make-Up Imaginaries Inc, whose craftsmen did a 100% job.
This film can be safely shown to children - there is virtually nothing here that would seriously interest adults. Although, of course, there is such a thing as an ‘eternal child’, which probably also has a right to exist. After all, there is a little dreamer in each of us. And as long as he is there, films like this one have a chance.
