The Flintstones and the Rubbles are modern stone-age families. Fred and Barney work at Slate and Company, mining rock. Fred gives Barney some money so he and Betty can adopt a baby. When Fred and Barney take a test to determine who should become the new associate vice president, Barney returns the favor by switching his test answers for Fred's, whose answers aren't very good. Fred gets the executive position, but little does he know that he's being manipulated by his boss to be the fall guy for an embezzlement scheme.

User Review

I watched this movie way back when I was a kid, and I liked it. But watching it again now, I no longer feel that childlike excitement. Still, it’s not a bad movie.

To some, cave life seems boring and primitive, but to the great inventors and dreamers William Hanna and Joseph Barbera, it appears vibrant, fun, and unusual—people live side by side with dinosaurs and have all the conveniences of the modern world, albeit in a prehistoric form. Fred Flintstone (John Goodman) lives in this cheerful world with his charming wife Wilma (Elizabeth Perkins) and their little daughter Pebbles. Fred has a best friend, Barney (Rick Moranis), who promises to help his friend. He helped so much that he lost his job, while Fred, who got a promotion, ended up as a puppet in the hands of the con artist Cliff (Kyle MacLachlan).

The plot is certainly nothing new, but you watch the movie for those prehistoric gadgets—like a pig instead of a trash can, or a mammoth sprinkler, or a crab lawnmower... In short, the movie is simply brimming with all kinds of gadgets, and for that alone, it’s worth seeing at least once.

But the actors... It feels a bit strange and, at times, ridiculous to see the actors trying to mimic the cartoon characters’ movements. But John Goodman’s famous “Yaba-daba-doo!” turned out just right.

And the famous song goes without saying! A light and catchy tune.

It turned out to be a charming comedy, but you have to watch it as a child—then you’ll have vivid memories that last a lifetime.
