Back in the good old days, when you saw the New Line Cinema logo on the screen, you could count on it being a good movie. Nowadays, of course, the name of this famous studio no longer guarantees quality content, but *They Will Kill You* is a solid project for those in the know who are into that kind of vibe.

This film definitely lives up to Kirill Sokolov’s reputation. The movie practically screams, “Just look at what this creative genius named Sokolov can do.” And it’s true—he can, and he shows it off to the audience. For anyone who loves nourishing trash, the director has rolled out a 90-minute thrill ride.

You have to learn from the best, and that approach applies here and works. Sokolov mixes projects like "I’m Going to Look", "The Kid Against Everyone", and "John Wick" on screen, not forgetting to draw inspiration from Tarantino and, perhaps, Gareth Evans. When the next brawl breaks out on screen, we’re treated to severed limbs and gushing fountains of blood in abundance.

The film has one major plus and a few less significant ones, but its main feature is that it practically never lets you get bored in the locations of the satanic hotel. Where the sequel "I’m Going to Look" simply treaded water, rehashed old ideas, and looked like a litmus test of the creative impotence of once-creative filmmakers who had lost their passion, Kirill Sokolov masterfully juggles the available resources and ideas (both his own and others’), pits characters against each other in cramped spaces, and gives free rein to his imagination.

The film is as simple as can be in terms of plot; it follows a well-trodden path. You’ve obviously seen it all before in various variations, time and again. However, the lion’s share of what’s happening on screen still looks so lively and fun that you want to turn a blind eye to everything else. And praise the director and actors for their work. Besides, actress Zazi Beitz looks incredibly agile in every scene, and watching her is a real pleasure. Machetes, axes, knives, and clubs flash deliciously across the screen; someone’s broken bones crunch; flesh is sliced; and severed heads fly through the air with a whistle. It’s as if you’ve stumbled into a party hosted by a sadist, a graphomaniac, and an influencer all at once. And, of course, you’re incredibly welcome here. Toward the end, the film stalls a bit, because it feels like you’ve already seen so much gore, blood, and headshots that you start thinking about a well-deserved breather, mentally speculating on what the final boss and the decisive showdown will be like. This element of the film is also handled entertainingly, though the imagination conjures up even bolder allegories and metaphors for the climax (if you’re going to go all out, go all out!).

If you’ve been missing it and are looking for trash as close to the unadulterated kind as possible, here it is. Served on a platter with a sauce of darkness and topped with a thick layer of stylish action. “They Will Kill You,” at first glance, isn’t so much an original piece as it is one made with love and dedication. To be blunt, the plot here feels tired and overused, but I seriously doubt that will be a problem for fans of the genre. After all, we’re here to let loose and have some fun in front of the screen. In that regard, the film definitely won’t disappoint you.
