It’s a shame—and really frustrating—that I was only able to watch this movie several years after it was made. In other words, just the other day. Words alone aren’t enough to express the sheer number of positive and pleasant emotions I feel when talking about "50 First Dates".
I can confidently say—this is one of the best romantic comedies I’ve seen in this little slice of whatever pie we call life. I want to emphasize the word “comedy” in particular. Honestly, I laughed from the bottom of my heart. It was quite unexpected. At first, before watching it, I hoped the movie would be worth it, but not to this extent. From the very first scenes, I found myself drawn in. And of course, the ending spoke for itself, while the final song left a lasting impression on my heart.
It’s been a long time since I’ve seen a movie like this—one that left such an indelible impression. Another fact is that the plot is well-thought-out, and with every passing minute, you discover new elements of the situation and the characters’ actions. The strongest love in nature has no beginning, and through the example of the main character, we see this perfectly in the film.
The love story depicted here is exceptional. You have to fight for love and never give up halfway—even if the filmmakers chose to portray this journey through the lens of illness. They made it more complicated, so to speak. This really gives you food for thought.
In addition, the on-screen chemistry between Adam Sandler and Drew Barrymore was exceptional. We also can’t fail to mention Rob Schneider. Well, these internationally renowned stars are playing in a genre they’re familiar with.
And let’s not forget the mastermind behind it all, Peter Segal, director of the third "Naked Gun" film starring the brilliant Leslie Nielsen. He’s a truly talented director in the comedy genre.
Check it out, if only to spend an unforgettable hour and a half having a blast.
