Both now work in industrial security for corporate giants whose CEOs hate each other. Flashbacks fill us in: is it coincidence that he sees her in Grand Central? In about a week, one of the firms is going to announce a revolutionary product. Under the guise of helping that corporation's rival, can Ray and Claire work their own theft and find an independent buyer? To work together, using the corporate rivalry to their advantage, they would have to trust one another - difficult, if not impossible. Or, is one playing the other?

Who would have thought that such a spy scandal could unfold in the market for powders and shampoos! It’s hard to believe that a single bottle of miracle cream could spark such an incredible thriller. But here it is! And something personal.
Ray and Claire are former intelligence agents who now make their living through industrial espionage. They work for competing corporations whose interests center on cosmetics and household chemicals. One of the companies plans to launch a revolutionary product but is keeping the new item under the strictest secrecy, while the other must, at all costs, get its hands on the secret formula for this unique product. But the thing is, Claire and Ray are only nominally working for competitors; in reality, Claire is a double agent, and Ray is her contact. But that’s not the whole story. The spies have known each other for a long time and refused to work together in the same organization for a reason; the pair has long planned to cash in on the dirty competitive games of greedy corporations. And although they’re partners, they can’t fully trust each other, since there’s no such thing as a former spy—which means even their romantic love story could turn out to be nothing more than a legend, just like any other mission. Who will outsmart whom? And who will be left looking like a fool?
A spy thriller with elements of romance. Basically, it’s a lighthearted, fun movie. There’s a tense moment that keeps you on edge and an unexpected ending. But the romantic subplot lacks the edge found, say, in *Mr. & Mrs. Smith*. Julia Roberts’ character came across as the more professional spy; her missions were riskier, and the very idea of “scamming” corporations was hers. Clive Owen’s character, on the other hand, was sort of just tagging along with her—he was the one taking a backseat even in their personal relationship.
There’s no shooting here and no chase scenes; everything is resolved diplomatically. It’s equally interesting to follow the spy intrigue and the romantic entanglements—I don’t even know where the characters deceived each other more.
And yet the film lacks that certain something; the ending is unexpected, but it doesn’t leave a strong impression.
