What the 1986 movie “April Fool's Day” did is simply unthinkable! In its time, this original slasher was hated by absolutely all slasher-romans. This movie shocked with its cruelty, kept the viewer intrigued during the whole movie to throw in the banal at the very end: “Happy first of April!” when everyone's nerves are at their limits. People hated “April Fool's Day” because it spent them so gracefully and still does. Really, it's impossible not to believe what's happening in the movie. Perhaps, on the periphery you feel that there is a catch somewhere very near, but you stubbornly believe that what is happening is true, because Danilo Bach wrote a great script, in which he managed to fit both the most ambiguous comedy and dynamic, violent and very elegant slasher with taste. The movie simply has no minuses - yes, it is reproached in the most exemplary divorce in the history of cinematography, but this divorce, agree, singular and not to love this movie just for its uniqueness - a crime, as I believe. It was Danilo Bach who first came up with the idea of combining slasher with comedy. The movie has only one minus, but not a serious one: it is absolutely impossible to write a review of this movie without spoilerizing something. Even the synopsis of the movie is on the verge of being foul. And mind you, I didn't tell you anything. Shh!

Let's look at the movie from a different angle. It's the mid-80's. Slashers are beginning to die out, mutating to survive, reborn, and get audiences back into theaters. Wes Craven releases his brilliant “A Nightmare on Elm Street” in 1984, which is entirely aimed at conceiving the second wave of slashers, to revive the audience's love for the slasher genre. At the same time, “Nightmare...” was combined with classic horror, which at the time had already managed to be forgotten. In general, everyone struggles for survival in their own way in the absurd mess. And while sequel after sequel “Friday the 13th” leads its way to conquer the top of the pedestal, without getting worse part by part, Danilo Bach is working hard ... And he worked on the script of the picture, which he wanted to make all slasheromans admire. After all, the picture, with this you can not argue, really brilliant - and not only for its time, it still looks great and still able to make a holiday to anyone on the first of April. It's capable of easily fooling absolutely any slasher-roman, if they're not initially prepared for this kind of thing, who has never heard of this movie and didn't know the ending beforehand. “April Fool's Day” was a slasher highlight that, no fool, became the most shocking slasher of the second wave. It really gave the audience a chance to laugh, but also to be scared, intrigued, frightened and sympathetic, to end up... laughing once again! Danilo Bach, with all my respect for this undeniably talented man, overdid it with the ending. After all, he did not think about the feelings of a tense viewer, completely unprepared for the fact that the viewer may laugh, but in his heart will forever hate his movie only because of one fact: he was divorced literally like a sucker, pardon the expression. This is the feeling familiar to absolutely everyone who watched “April Fool's Day” to the end. And this feeling makes many people underestimate the movie, hate it to this day, and tell everyone that this movie sucks. But, as an unbiased judge, I recommend this movie to you for the most obligatory viewing! You will be one more person on whom Danilo Bach will conduct his successful and most amusing experiment in the history of horror cinema with the grace of a king.

Verdict. The movie “April Fool's Day” proves a seemingly paradoxical and simply impossible fact: comedy and slasher can easily get along together! The main thing is to competently put all this performance, with what the heroes of the picture have coped well. “April Fool's Day” is one of the amazing phenomena of the slasher genre. Yes, after watching this movie, you may hate it, but you must watch it, nevertheless. All slasher romantics should see April Fool's Day. Eternal memory to this movie!
