User Review
An unexpectedly stylish picture with an impeccable, deep script. Usually in American westerns, the creators adhered to a linear development of events. Everything happened according to a simple plot: 'crime-punishment'. And in our case, the reason why James Stewart hunts for his vis-a-vis we learn at the very end of the tape, only after the duel between them. And we will not follow the adventures of the protagonist - everything is clear with him. From the very beginning until the last minute he will be filled with a sense of holy, and as it turns out, fully justified, revenge. But we will follow the journey of his rifle - stylish 'Winchester 73'. The rifle will have time to visit the main character, two scumbags, a coward, a military man and an Indian chief. Well, and the viewer will have to watch the competition organized by Wyatt Earp, the fight with a gang of scumbags and the clash with the Indians.
Amusingly, in fact, as a rifle from hand to hand will go from hand to hand and heroine Shelley Winters. First she will be kicked out of town, then she will be taken by an outright coward, and soon she will simply be taken by a bandit. We see how little at that time was a woman's opportunity for free choice. And outwardly infantile heroine Shelley Winters turned out to be just right.
James Stewart is unexpectedly brutal in the title role. Usually good-natured, he allows himself to be genuinely angry in the picture and it turns out all of this he is very natural. For him, 1950 was a very successful year. Such works as 'Winchester 73' and 'Harvey', as well as 'Broken Arrow' are among the best in the filmography of this artist.
