Every nation has its heroes. Difficult times are characterized by the fact that the line between hero and villain becomes more and more shaky. In a confrontation between two men, someone has to emerge victorious and change history... even if there is no formal declaration of war.
'Everything about the movie is clear' - it's so easy to label this movie before you've even seen it. Narratives in award contending films have not been uncommon before, but this year it seems we've collected a whole basketful. Or is it not that simple?
Are you yourself so different from the BLM rioters if you're inspired by the speeches of terrorist socialist Hampton and see his crew as more than a syncretistic left-wing criminal gang? Unlike terrorists, the FBI has no inclination to work with an audience and methodically, behind the scenes, does the work someone else has to do. Often unpleasant and unpopular.
And so it is here - the people of the United States, unlike the government, were not prepared for the Cold War, several failed presidents lead the society to anarchy, and anti-war slogans about the really quite controversial idea of conscription on the one hand and the victory of the Soviets in Africa on the other hand, radicalize already marginalized groups.
But a wedge has to be driven and to solve such a delicate problem as a paramilitary sect in the ranks of ethnic minorities and a hero is required from their ranks. Even if he is not really ready to become a hero. Even if he is the last person who would be suitable for the role of a hero.
Basically, the very setting of the issue, where we have a fervent populist with popular support, against whom 'everyone' is against and yesterday's criminal, who has denied his (and this is important) past, for the sake of his own future, doing not the most pleasant, but again, important things.
Fate has decided Hampton and O'Neill, one became a 'martyr' for a bunch of madmen, the other showed the government that African-Americans not only can, but are capable of solving the problems facing the state, and therefore actually have a fair claim to a piece of the pie. And no matter how much the director gloats over the beautiful life that O'Neill secretly led - indeed, a man who fights terrorism here and now, especially in such a delicate situation as the U.S. was in at the time, should be paid handsomely.
The Wheel of Sansara has made a turn, several failed presidents have brought the USA back to the same crisis and, quite rightly resenting the boorish behavior of Lewis Hamilotn, don't forget that there is also Kanye West, who is a friend, comrade and brother to white people.
