It's already clear from the opening credits what kind of movie we're about to see. Inexpensive. I'd even say cheap. However, not everything is bad that was made for three and a half cents. “Chronos” is nothing short of an homage to David Cronenberg's ‘The Fly’ as well as Kenneth Brennan's ”Frankenstein.” And if at first a lot of things seem far-fetched and unnatural, then this feeling disappears. There are no problems with logic in “Chronosex”. As there are no problems with the script - it begins to intrigue from about the tenth minute, and does not stop until the cruel, grim, bloody finale and the following credits.
The main characters play quite tolerably well, the plot is primitive and not too well worked out, but no outright stupidity is noticed, as well as no white holes in the script. Special effects and “meat” - finger-licking. Especially pleased with the metamorphoses occurring with the main character up to the finale, which again, brings associations with the aforementioned 'The Fly'. Let's add to this strong direction, wonderful “picture”, a powerful charge of drama and, finally, a brilliantly staged fight between Federico Luppi and Ron Perlman in the final movie.
Thus, we can summarize: the tape turned out to be not only atmospheric, but also damn cruel. The only thing is that you will have to wait a little - before the blood starts pouring, it will take a long time, good “meat” action starts only in the final third of “Chronos”. However, the first 50 minutes will not be boring: there are no frank “voids” in this work. A lot of movie for little money - that's what is “Chronos”. Excellent microbudget thriller. Guillermo Del Toro once again proved to me that he is the real master and expert in his work.
